The following frequently asked questions provide information about searching archived content in Arctera Personal Archive.
Q: Which messages can I search in Arctera Personal Archive?
Ans: You can search any message available in your Personal Archive, including messages that you deleted from Microsoft Outlook after they were archived.
If you are a reviewer, you can search email messages in the archives of the accounts that you manage.
If you have delegate access to an archive, you can also search email messages available in that archive.
Q: Can I search contacts, tasks, or calendar items?
Ans: No. Arctera Unified Platform does not archive contacts, tasks, or calendar items. Therefore, these items are not searchable in Arctera Personal Archive.
Q: Does capitalizing a search term affect the search results?
Ans: No. Search terms are not case-sensitive. Capitalizing a search term does not affect the search results.
Q: Does Arctera Personal Archive ignore commonly used words or special characters?
Ans: Yes. Arctera Personal Archive ignores specified stop words and special characters when processing searches.
For more information, see About stop words and About special characters and double-byte character searches.
Q: How can I search for an attachment?
Ans: To search for a specific attachment, enter the attachment file name in Query Search. You can also use Advanced Search to find messages that contain a specific attachment type.
For information about the supported file formats, see About searchable attachment types.
Q: How can I search for two terms at the same time?
Ans: Use the AND operator between two search terms to return items that contain both terms.
For example:
cloud AND computing
You can also use the OR operator between two search terms to return items that contain either term or both terms.
For example:
cloud OR computing
For more information, see About Boolean operator search syntax.
Q: How can I exclude a term from the search results?
Ans: Use the NOT operator between two search terms to include the first term and exclude the second term.
For example:
cloud NOT computing
This search returns items that contain cloud but do not contain computing.
For more information, see About Boolean operator search syntax.
Q: Can I perform a wildcard search?
Ans: Yes. Use a question mark (?) or an asterisk (*) at the end of a search term:
  • Use ? to represent one unspecified character.
  • Use * to represent one or more unspecified characters.
The search term must contain at least three characters before the wildcard character.
For example:
  • appl? can find terms such as apple or apply.
  • comp* can find terms such as computing, computer, or company.
For more information, see About wildcard search syntax.
Q: How can I perform a proximity search?
Ans: Enclose two search terms in double quotation marks, followed by a tilde (~) and a numeric value.
For example:
"cloud computing"~5
The numeric value specifies the maximum number of words that can occur between the two search terms.
For more information, see About proximity search syntax.
Q: How can I search within a specific email domain?
Ans: Enter the domain name in the To field of Advanced Search to find messages associated with that domain.
You can also use a wildcard to search across multiple domains that share the same beginning.
For example:
mycloud*
This search returns email messages for domains whose names begin with mycloud.
